On a wet, windy and really miserable Sunday morning, those who braved the awful weather enjoyed a warm and cosy act of worship in the lovely surroundings of St Andrews Church in Lliswerry. Father Will led the service as Revd Linda was at Llanwern Church for the retirement service of the Revd Celia Jones, a very good friend and supportive colleague of Linda’s. The church was almost full and with a choir of thirty from St John’s we were able to worship and enjoy heart-warming fellowship with members from St Andrew’s, Holy Trinity, Christchurch and St John’s. Will’s interesting sermon on the theme of ‘Names we were given at Baptism’ gave us food for thought and Revd Keith led the prayers. The singing was excellent and, standing in the front of the church with the choir, I was delighted to hear the volume of the singing coming from the large congregation! My thanks to Churchwarden Mel for his help in setting up the choir seating and we were all fully sated by the wonderful cakes on offer with our tea and coffee in the hall after the service. The ladies of St Andrew’s had worked very hard to provide such goodies for us to enjoy. Thank you one and all. A lovely occasion.
