On Saturday 9th June, the choir held a sponsored sing to raise money for the choir fund, which supports the social activities of the choristers, mainly the young choristers who enjoy their activities during holiday times. The choir sang for two hours, singing verses from 50 hymns and three anthems that were individually sponsored. We were well supported by choir families and friends and a few members of the congregation joined us to sing and sponsor a hymn or two. We had some fun along the way; Dawn and Erin paid to conduct the choir (not as easy as it looks!) and everyone enjoyed singing the hymn God is our strength and refuge (based on Psalm 46) to the Dambusters’ March, written by Eric Coates. We even had choir and congregation swooping like the aeroplanes in the famous film!! (look at the pictures in the website gallery). It was a fun morning and we were amazed to find out that we will have raised well over £1100 when all the sponsor money is in. What a wonderful effort on everyone’s part. Our thanks to everyone who sang, to Linda and Margaret for accompanying the choir on organ and keyboard, friends who looked after the refreshments and sale of cakes, those who supported us by joining in the fun and, above all, those very generous people who sponsored the Hymn Sing on the day and with donations before and after the day. Truly an amazing outcome. Thank you all so much.
