The Choir and congregation of St. John the Evangelist welcomed the First Sunday of Advent on the evening of 3rd December with an Advent Devotional service of readings and carols by candlelight.

In Advent, the Church counts down the days to Christmas with a mixture of expectation and hope: we remember the anniversary of Christ’s birth, and also we look for his coming Kingdom. “This is when it all gears up,” said Father William Ingle-Gillis, the priest in charge, “and few work harder than our church musicians to make our worship deep and fulfilling.” Although we all have much to do in the course of December — shopping, parties, meals, gatherings — the Sundays of
Advent offers us a brief moment to pause, as well, and to reflect on our hopes for a better world in the coming year, and to thank God for his goodness.
